FRAGRANT PLANTS

Many FRAGRANT PLANTS need greenhouses to successfully bloom, even though we've included fragrant Hoyas, Pereskia, Sansevieria, Solandra, Eucharis, Myrtus, and others in other sections of this catalogue. For some very very scented (but definitely not frangrant) blossoms check Amorphophallus, Typhonium, Stapelia, and Huernia. For scented foliage we suggest Centrathermum, Salvia, Curcuma, Elletaria, Laurus, Lippa, MeNtha, Myrtus, Pelargonium, Piper, Plectranthus, Pogostemon, Aeolanthus, and so on.

The EXOTIC JASMINE: We offer a selection of exclusively Jasminum species for serious collectors in our JASMINUM COLLECTION

99104 JASMINE: TRUE SPECIES COLLECTION: We send a selection of 5 actual Jasminum species for $22.00; these will demand very bright, evenly cool fall and winter conditions, and reliable humidity levels in order to set flower buds. If you are unable to provide these very strict fall conditions, best try the following collection instead in order to achieve the fragrant blossoms.

99105 JASMINE: PLANTS CALLED JASMINES: Should you lack the cool, humid, very bright conditions demanded by the bulk of the true species but still want the intense fragrances, we can select a group collectively known (because of their type of fragrance) by the common name "Jasmine" such as specific species of Cestrum, Solanum, Pandorea, Stephanotis, certain Mandevilla, specific Gardenia, & Trachleospermum, as well as those true ones (such as the Sambac crew) reliably performing well indoors. 5 plants @ $18.00

Remember that all must have full light and adequate fertilizer in order to produce flower buds. Collections are entirely our choice, changing constantly; particular plants must be ordered by stock number-a representative selection if offered:

40112 CESTRUM NOCTURNUM SOL HP TGH $ 3.00 "Night Blooming Jessamine/Jasmine" Slender nightshade shrub with open sprays of greenish white creamy tubular blossoms intensely fragrant at night, followed by white berries.

54115 GARDENIA [TABERNAEMONTANA] DIVARICATA [HORT] VARIEGATA APO TGH $ 25.00 Considered a selection of the "Paper Gardenia" with handsome leathery paired leaves brilliantly bordered in ivory white. While the nomenclature is poor, the shrub is stunning both in foliage and fragrant blossoms.

40320 GARDENIA JASMINOIDES [AUGUSTA] MYSTERY RUB CGH HP $ 5.25 Double white large fragrant fls; florist's favorite, thus the "Corsage Grandiflora" growing to be a stout shrub with rich glossy green quilted foliage. Asian herb for perfume oils; for also treating colds & coughs! If located in a low humidity situation the flower buds will drop before opening; in fact, any major change in location while in bud can result in the blossoms aborting so find a cool very bright spot and LEAVE it there.

40321 GARDENIA JASMINOIDES RADICANS FLOREPLENO RUB HP CGH $ 5.00 "Dwarf Gardenia" Low shrub with tidy glossy dark green lvs paired on much-branched stems to beautifully frame lovely fragrant double white blooms; unlike florist types, this produces a few fls at a time, but throughout the year. Easy as a windowsill potplant; excellent as a low statured bonsai subject developing excellent bark and maintaining petite blackish green foliage, both important characteristics for such an undertaking.

42004 GARDENIA JASMINOIDES RADICANS MARGINED RUB HP CGH $ 12.00 Marvelous "Margined Mini Gardenia" Low petite shrub, which prefers a cool winter location, aflutter with small narrow waxy lvs, each boldly bordered waxy ivory white; lovely hauntingly fragrant white rose shaped blossoms. If grown indoors, we suggest you place on a pebble tray to maintain constant humidity levels. A seriously beautiful plant.
