Specialty Lists for Items in Short Supply

Rather than just post a mid-summer or early fall listing of new and special plants, we are attempting to maintain and update this SPECIALITY LIST monthly, starting this winter of 2012. During the major time warps of late spring when our mailorder shipping is at peak, expect a lapse or so, but by early summer we should be keeping newly available items posted with some regularity--many curious and rare plants (usually only available to visitors visiting the nursery to uncover) are currently in propagation. But many are too iffy to list with tropical and succulent offerings in the main section of this website and are not finished enough to be offered in this list now; so watch for changes below. Most of the following do not appear in the main catalogue listings either because they are not in ongoing production (as are plants in the main catalogue which are notated SOLD OUT, but not removed from the postings), or because the number of available rooted and potted individual plants is quite limited and no further crops are anticipated soon. So have fun reading through what might constitute the most hopelessly bizarre and "rarely" jumbled selection of prize plants you've met in some time. We exist to keep you amused and to keep you supplied with just enough new toys (plants) to keep you amused but never sated.

71481 CORNUS KOUSA WOLFEYES COR HT $ 35.00 Very beautiful upright shrub "Asian Dogwood" popular for its excellent layering habit with very regular, non-burning leaves with brilliant white margins; beautiful white flowers. These are large plants which may necesitate additional shipping costs.

81965 DIANTHUS KNAPPII YELLOW HARMONY CAR HP $ 4.25 The famous "Yellow Pink" with sulphur-gold flowers elegantly held above the compact interlaced gray-needled foliage. Typically serveral blossoms on each stem; needs full sun.

80794 IRIS VERSICOLOR GERALD DARBY IRI HT $ 15.00 Odd selection of "Poison Flag" or "Wild Blue Flag" Glaucous three foot tall leaf fans emerge a deep purple black in the cold spring bog water (semi aquatic); the deep violet hued Iris blossoms are designed in yellow and lime. Impressive.

42096 SAGITTARIA GRAMINEA CRUSHED ICE ALI HT HH $ 8.50 "Variegated Arrowhead" Mostly emerged 6' stems; sword-like yellow and orchre mottled arrowleaves ; white fls. Native bog plant needs root area completely submerged.

71725 ULMUS PROCERA ARGENTEO-VARIEGATA ULM HT $ 55.00 "Variegated English Elm" Stunning small tree with foliage dramatically striped and dotted with ivory white. Far more vigorous than most variegated trees.

71724 ULMUS PROCERA LOUIS VAN HOUTTE (VAN HOUTTEI) TAX HT $ 55.00 "Golden English Elm." Stunning small tree with all gold foliage. Good sized leaves which hold their color throughout the summer.

59219 UNCINIA UNCINIATA CYP HH $ 5.25 "Red New Zealand Sedge" Ever-red foot tall foilage -- the very stiff flat leaves take on a red-maroon cast in winter; we have yet to test the hardiness here.
