70750 TAXODIUM DISTICHUM TAX HT $ 7.75 Strongly buttressed native "Bald Cypress" newly popular as a candidate for Bonsai in Japan as "Rakuusho"; always popular as a deciduous conifer in American gardens giving shade for windowed rooms all summer than , after a golden needle fall in autumn, a beautiful leafless outline all winter allowing in winter light. If grown in bog conditions, this beautiful tree develops upright woody growth structures around the base of the trunk known as 'knees." 71000 THUJA OCCIDENTALIS WAREANA LUTESCENS CUP HT $ 5.50Dense pyramidal to columnar habit with broadly fan-shaped fans showing white-gold winter color, a lace like effect is given by tip needles often being darker than interior ones. Dense coral like foliage perfect with other conifers as the soft pastel hued coloration remains quite distinct from the gold and the silvery white tones of the more typical cultivars.

41799 TOVARA FILIFORMIS PAINTER'S PALETTE POLYGO HT $ 4.75 Zoned leaves liberally splashed with pink, ivory & chartreuse; weird bisque red knotweed flower wands in fall. This showy hardy (yet tropical appearing) perennial is now more accurately in the genus Persicaria as is the chevron-less T. virginiana.

81612 TOVARA [PERSICARIA] VIRGINIANA VARIEGATA POLYGO HT $ 4.75 Seldom seen "Variegated Buckwheat" with showy leaves richly marbled and slashed with cream--lacks the chocolate chevrons of the better known 'Painter's Palette.' Botanists now have declared this to be Polygonum or Persicaria filliformis.

We especially like this one because it works well in container combinations where slugs will not be a crutial problem.

30684 TYPHONIUM [SAUROMATUM] VENOSUM [GUTTATUM] ARAC TGH $ 4.25 "Voo Doo Bulb" under current name. Great tropical summer foliage; remarkable giant winter blossom with a fragrance never to be forgotten.

70482 ULMUS PARVIFOLIA SEMPERVIRENS SEIJU ULM HT $ 5.00 "Seiju Elm" Deep green leaves on arched stems forming corky bark with age; easily dwarfed as a container plant. From the Seiju-En Bonsai Nursery, Lodi, California. Excellent subject for bonsai. If liberated from the bonds of containerdom, a maturing dwarf tree develops remarkable ridges and rifts of bark rasied high above the trunk surface.

70492 ULMUS (ZELKOVA) SERRATA GOSHIKI AGA HT $ 45.00 Not really an Elm, but of thought of as an Elm. Real genus is Zelkova (see also below). Often considered a dwarf Elm, this plant with heavily frosted foliage gradually fades to an elegant lime margin. Largish grafted plants. In the early spring the white-lime margin is often pink. It maintains a beautiful vase shape for the moderate sized yard. One of our favorite variegated trees.

81421 VERBASCUM PHOENICEUM ALBUM SCR HB HT $ 4.00 From the flat low foliage of "Purple Mullein" arise spikes with morning blooming white flowers, typically with a pale pinkeye. Gradually seeds itself if given full sun and poor soil to form a bed of Winter green doily-like deep green rosettes. Unlike many mulleins, this is always attractive in our very moist climate.

This self-branching quite compact form of our native "Blueberried Arrowwood" (Zone 3 hardy) can grow in difficult sites.

Rubbery green foliage and typical white "Calla" blossoms once established (will take several years) and mature--ours in Zone 6b took 5 years to bloom. We received this originally from the late C.R. Waldron. These will be sent as starter sized seedlings.
