30549 ACORUS GRAMINEUS DWARF HIMEMASAMUME ARAC HP HT $ 15.00 "Snow on the Mountain" Interlacing ranks of short swpictures/ord-shaped glossy-grass lvs, each striped on its inner edge, form remarkable 4" cushions; Rarest Japanese selection of this winter hardy "Sweetflag"--also beautiful as indoor pot plant as well as a choicebonsai companion.
10004 ADIANTUM CAPILLUS-VENERIS POLYP HP CGH $ 4.25 Lovely "Venus Maidenhair" with short maroon stems bearing clouds of ovate-triangular pinnae; partial to lime, does well in constantly moist, cool conditions--under your greenhouse bench or in your Wardian case. Unlike the other Adiantums offered here, this species tends to need a winter rest, sending out new fronds in early spring--thus a very poor choice for terrariums and windowsills unlike the others we offer.

10007 ADIANTUM CAUDATUM POLYP HP CGH $ 6.75 Fountains of beautiful cascading shimmering fronds; young ferns form at the tips of each mature frond, thus called the "Walking Maidenhair Fern"; from Old World tropics. Extremely dramatic when grown as a hanging basket subject in conditions of reliable humidity levels; wonderful as a carpet for your hobby greenhouse and a big favorite as it slowly populates the nooks and corners of your favorite Wardian Case.

10009 ADIANTUM HISPIDULUM POLYP CGH HP $ 5.50 "Australian Maidenhair." Forked horn-like fronds emerge red pink on top of the wiry black stems. Forms an attractive slowly increasing mound. Reliable if kept evenly moist and cool; demands quite bright light and sweet soil to thrive--when you lightly lime the other Adiantums, avoid dusting this species with lime. We stock selections of this easily grown but dainty appearing "Maidenhair" with pinkish hued new pinnae.

10016 ADIANTUM RADDIANUM FRITZ LUTHII POLYP $ 6.50 Sturdy habit with a windswept aspect as fronds radiate from the central creeping rhizome. Beautiful elongated pinnae {fronds) are thickly spaced to give a shingled, layered effect always giving this a distinctive highly decorative appearance.

52023 AECHMEA GRACILIS BRO HP TGH $ 25.00"Popcorn Plant" Short outcurving leathery stiff rosettes present short popcorn inflorescenes of bright red bracts with red-violet flowers--and these are very very impressively colored. Excellent house or greenhouse subject; easy to bloom if given bright light. Price reflects its refusal to quickly offset like other species.

20104 ALSOBIA [EPISCEA] DIANTHIFLORA GES HP TGH $4.50 "Carpet Violet: Excellent small species quickly creates a low carpet of shimmery leaves puncuated by very lacy white flowers. Prefers cooler temperatures and brighter light than its Episcia cousins. Typically sent in moist moss.

42125 ALTERNANTHERA CHRISTMAS TREE [HANSOTI #5] AMARA HP TGH $ 4.00 Very tiny leaved selection with grayish green foliage thickly held in petite conical mounds. Marvelous very small plants with congested curved lvs nonetheless are stalwart growers; absolutely marvelous in any terrarium landscape--no one will guess the genus of this elfin critter.

54603 ALTERNANTHERA FICOIDEA GREEN MACHINE AMARA HP TGH $ 3.75 Very low carpeting "Puckered Parrot" with clusters of wide very quilted deep green leaves accented with small white straw textured bracts tucked among the foliage year 'round. 41926 ALTERNANTHERA FICOIDEA WHITE CARPET AMARA HP CGH $ 5.00 Very congested buns of lovely tiny puckered lvs brightly margined bold white. Incredible indian cultivar famous for fooling plant show judges who cannot believe this is cousin to the "Calico/ Parrot" tribe! The most successful way to introduce a patch of white in your terrarium or tropical trough. Much used in moss topiary as stays close to the surface.

56061 BEGONIA IMPERIALIS BEG HP TERR $ 6.00 (rz) "Carpet Begonia." Procumbent stems hold pebbly bronze and silver-streaked lvs; prefers filtered light, cool location to bring out amber tones; modest white winter fls. Mexican classic species--this horticultural selection seems more heat tolerant than other collections we have tested. We cannot ship this species to you during warmer parts of the year unless you realize that the foliage will most likely suffer some damage.

56387 BEGONIA KEN'S KANDY [HYB] BEG HP CGH $ 6.00 (rz) "Celery Stalk" thick blanched erect petioles flare into double Ionic helixes of wide deep olive lvs nearly entirely netted deep chocolate-sienna; very congested habit typical of many recent 'Hocking Hybrid' series. Tolerant of low humidity, this has become a very popular windowsill subject. Looks complicated and difficult, but this vigorous tuffett is of easy culture.

56077 BEGONIA MASONIANA BEG TERR CGH $ 6.50 (rz) "Iron Cross Begonia" Puckered quilted leaf surface with maroon chocolate central cross--the entire bullate leaf being reddish haired. A New Guinea native prefering terrarium humidity where it will produce its clusters of greenish white haired blossoms; not easily grown as a windowsill subject without pebbletray culture. Never give up if the "Iron Cross" foliage suddenly dries and disappears, random mini-dormancies are the norm (even in the greenhouse)--the succulent surface rhizomes will soon produce a new set of its remarkably beautiful leaves when its environment improves. If you need positive feedback on your prowess as a beginning Begonia grower, this is not a good selection for your first, second or third subject--once your growing skills are honed, try the ever tempting "Iron Cross," otherwise, you might consider yourself as nailed to a very stiff challenge.

65336 BEGONIA WITHLACOOCHEE [HYB] BEG HP TGH $ 3.25 [trailing-scandent] Lovely elongated softly pelted rich green leaves, with soft ochre radiating veins. overlap on the cascading stems; white winter flowers most elegant. 30583 CALADIUM HUMBOLTII ARAC TGH TERRARIUM $ 8.50 "Miniature Caladium" Tiny green arrowhead lvs heavily marked with white, on delicate short stems. Perfect for your wardian case. Seldom offered anywhere, even though no book on houseplants can resist a photo of such a remarkably striking minature.

20643 CHIRITA DIANE MARIE [HYB] GES TGH TERR $ 6.25 Strikingly beautiful houseplant forming a rumpled rosette like posie of thick jadelike silver surfaced leaves with pewter line and serrate margins; many nodding lavender slipper flowers with flared mouth revealing maroon lines and lemon throat.

20463 CHIRITA SINENSIS HISAKO [HYB] GES HP TERR $ 4.50 Flared rosette of very succulent serrated lvs richly traced with silver, from which rise stout stems with soft lavender pouched flaring blossoms of considerable substance. Handsome Nakayama hybrid more free-flowering than species clones. Certainly one of the easiest of all houseplants, equally at home in the windowsill, terrarium, or greenhouse/plantroom--but most smashingly splendid when grown under lights. When customers "cut down" on the number of their pet houseplants, this is never tossed out!
40115 CHLOROPHYTUM BICHETII [LAXUM] LIL HP TGH $ 6.75 "False Lily Turf" Marvelous tufts of small arching blades margined in ivory white; good in low light; from Gabon. "Pongol" has become a great favorite with terrarium fanciers as it maintains its petite tightly clumping tuffet outline to provide a welcome white banded foil to flashier companions. This belongs in the short "Toy Category" of the tribe as it reliably slowly clumps, never throwing out long arching shoots with plantlets. Its tuberous roots insure its survival should its human experience lapses in watering.

40116 CHLOROPHYTUM BICHETII [LAXUM] LONGWOOD EMERALD LIL HP TGH $ 5.00 Formerly offered as `Green Form'--this is a unique unusual form lacking any foliar variegation; excellent for underplanting or for featuring in a tiny bonsai pot; equally successful as a windowsill plantlet or a denizen of a small terrarium where it mimics a tinsy foliaged daylily--even with tinsy succulent tuberous roots. However the tiny white (lily family) blossoms are on a short unimpressive stem.

10204 COLYSIS WRIGHTII POLYP HP CGH $ 4.75 Very compact deep green strap fronds with tiny depressions on surface like hammered tin. Very attractive small fern equally successful as a windowsill pot plant (looks great in a small bonsai pot as the wiry maroonish rhizomes wander over the lip) and as a small statured vertical accent in the sophisticated terrarium. Delicate appearance, yet easy to grow.

11431 COLYSIS WRIGHTII MONSTRIFERA POLYP CGH TERR $ 9.25 Short glossy membraneous fronds, elaborately veined, widely fluted into undulant tips like an Art Nouveau fantasy. This tassled rare dwarf is petite enough to be perfect in a terrarium, yet quite able to cope with humidity levels of the windowsill or litegarden. Always one of the most popular dwarf ferns we offer--it looks difficult to grow, but is not.

52315 CRYPTANTHUS MARION OPPENHEIMER [HYB] BRO HP TGH $8.25 Leaves of rich sage green with very showy bright pink stripes in compact congested rosettes--unique and beautiful--which slowly but steadily form perfect hemispheres of color in the terrarium. Grows too slowly to compete with others; so locate carefully.

53376 CRYPTANTHUS NOVISTAR BRO HP TGH $ 5.00 Dark ruby red with fewer stripes and a dark green edge.

52081 CRYPTANTHUS NUBICOLA [hort] BRO HP TGH $ 4.75 "Cloud Plant" Lovely dwarf with masses of hazy-pink narrow lvs in quite flat profiled rosettes gradually offsetting from the center after blooming; a natural for the small terrarium.

52087 CRYPTANTHUS UNDULATUS BRO HP TGH $ 4.25 Very compact species with cardboardish leaf edges quite ruffled; eventually forms mounding tuffets.

41376 CUPHEA HYSSOPIFOLIA LINDA DOWNER LYT HP TGH $ 3.75 Compact laterally-branching cultivar of "Dwarf Hawaiian Heather" selected at Downer's Greenhouses with sprays of pure white flowers; the perfect companion for the purple flowered `compacta.' Good flowering indoor bonsai subject.

42209 CUPHEA HYSSOPIFOLIA YATSUBUSA LYT HP $ 5.25 Foliage larger, lilac flowered color more intense than the more elegant 'Compacta', yet keeps lateral low growth habit; as this selection grows rapidly, it will always appeal to bonsai designers.

59195 CYPERUS FERTILIS CYP HP CGH $ 4.25 Marvelously cute member of the Papyrus forming small flat rosettes of many wide quilted pastel almond lvs, quite short from which centers arise arched stolons w/ new dangling cute viviparous rosettes--the "Spider Plant" of "Umbrella Sedges"--especially popular as a "darling" terrarium subject with its wee skirt of new viviparus babies encircling mom spidersedge.

88589 DIONAEA MUSCIPULA AKAI RYU DROS HH TERR $ 6.25 Striking red foliaged "Venus' Flytrap" Atlanta B. Garden's Ron Gagliardo's "Red Dragon" selection. Since this is a Carolina native, this species wants to be dormant mid-winter. If grown indoors, keep in a terrarium.

40209 DORSTENIA TURNERAEFOLIA MOR HP TGH $ 6.00 Shiny deep green elm-shaped lvs and ray-less round purple receptacles on glossy maroon tubercular stems; low light prefered to keep rich dark sheened foliage color. Perhaps same as Dorstenia bahiensis (Sucre), even though the sap is a remarkable orange! Excellent house plant.

42142 DURANTA SPECIES DWARF VER TGH HP $ 5.00 Hansoti #26; possibly an extreme dwarf clone of D. repens (although Botanists now suggest that all are species erecta--bit of a contrast?), yet the sprays of delicate flowers are of rich lilac, not blue. 67091 EUPHORBIA FRANCOISII EUP HP TGH $ 6.50 Low, nearly prostrate Madagascar species with tiny white ranks of soft spines on stubby stems topped with wildly varied thick lvs from silver to emerald to pink, shaped like diamond or violins or terete sabers, or fairy javelins; cyathiums range from green to pink to yellow. Certainly the most popular (and shamelessly easy to grow) of the dwarf Madagascar tribe, a number of customers have added more and more of the endlessly varied leaf forms and leaf colors to a lite garden (in which conditions the jade like waxy lvs develop astounding color saturation), to a windowsill collection (which, like the Haworthia collections) begins to look like a foliar version of a glass paperweight assemblage, or to an array of equisite low jade foliaged mounds of theme and variation in the hobby greenhouse. Best colors when protected from searing sunlight levels.

67133 EUPHORBIA LEUCONEURAEUP HP TGH TER $ 4.25 "Madagascar Jewel" Beautiful fleshy lvs veined in decorative silver loops in juvenile stages, form flat rosette tops over central club-like trunks ridged in sienna tufts. So tolerant it will even flourish in the humidity of a terrarium.

Very popular with the bonsai & alpine greenhouse crowds! We prefer to ship this when the temperatures are moderate for sometimes it does not travel well without considerable leaf drop--a perfectly natural plant response to seasoned plantsmen, but an unnerving crisis to those new to growing. Naturally, it immediately leafs out just like most Pelargoniums after having survived the shock of a few days in a dark box.

40321 GARDENIA JASMINOIDES RADICANS FLOREPLENO RUB HP CGH $ 5.00 "Dwarf Gardenia" Low shrub with tidy glossy dark green lvs paired on much-branched stems to beautifully frame lovely fragrant double white blooms; unlike florist types, this produces a few fls at a time, but throughout the year. 50041 JUSTICIA EXTENSA ACAN HP TGH $ 3.50 "Camouflage Plant" Zaire native with erect stems completely covered by lvs patterned ash-silver; clusters of tiny weird horned blossoms are quite intriguing. Modestly beautiful foliage houseplant deserving more popularity. Properly pruned, this is small statured enough to give height in a larger terrarium or Wardian Case where its lovely foliage designs can be displayed to advantage.

10607 MICROGRAMMA PALMERII [NITIDA] POLYP TERR TGH $ 25.00 Many semiglossy small elongated-oval fronds held erect over the slim slightly flatened rhizomes meandering over cork or treefern; because this fern evolved upon tropical treetrunks, it survives low humidity better than some; but truely thrives when given artifical rain forest (good humidity) conditions in a terrarium where it forms a dense otherworldly groundcover.

30285 MONSTERA SILTEPECANA EL SALVADORE ARAC $ 4.25 Small bluish toned twisting javelin shaped leaves of waxy texture with darker mosaic of veins are closely "shingled" along the succulent stem which roots as it wanders--juvenile form, small enough for terrarium display, although as tolerant of exposure as any Philodendron scandens cultivar.

'Duffii' with appearance of Pellaea rotundifolia. Also called 'Patty Roosevelt' even though, like all the cordifolia cultivars, this forms weird subsurface tubercules resembling sci-fi cocoons and thus is not an exaltata cultivar at all!

14025 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA HUBBARDII POLYP HP TGH $ 5.25 A select dwarf clone from Michael Hubbard, larger than 'Wanamaka' but with similar erect bunched habit. Easy houseplant for limited space.

RARER & MORE UNUSUAL TERRARIUM PLANTS

99553 TERRARIUM COLLECTION--RARE SELECTIONS: For five extremely special plants for only $25.00 This collection includes miniature items like the previous collection, but the base cost of the items chosen is slightly higher. If you have a terrarium and want to add to it, this is your item number. If you want specific rare plants for your terrarium, here are some suggestions bellow.

Don't forget that we also offer several odd ferns and miniature philodendrons that would thrive in your terrarium. Find them in the green box at the bottom of the page under "Ferns" and "P2".

10008 ADIANTUM CAPILLLUS-VENERIS SCINTILLA POLYP CGH HP $ 8.75 Small-statured form with erect bold pinnae with edges that are narrowly crested and fimbriate--these closely held in plume effect as the frond is held erect by wiry purple stems. Considered a sterile clone. Perhaps the most arrestingy original and rare "Maidenhair Fern" we offer--although we are not sure most maidens would wish their hair to too closely resemble this topsy turvy outline. Perhaps a punk maiden.

30609 ANTHURIUM LUXURIANS [HORT] ARAC TGH $ 15.00 Fabulous foliage of quilted pewter--if you do not grow in a greenhouse we suggest this be grown in a terrarium or Wardian case.

30147 ANTHURIUM RADICANS ARAC HP TERR $ 17.50 We now have limited numbers of large plants available. Prostrate creeping dwarf species with metalic pustulate leaves. creating a waffled carpet in a large terrarium or as a low light houseplant grown in a pebble tray; absolutely fabulous in a Wardian Case. This is often in limited availability as is so slow growing; please check.

56803 ANTHURIUM RADICANS X DRESSLERII ARAC HP TERR $ 25.00 Not available until 2010; so many people have ordered this item that we are temporarily SOLD OUT. This is the fabulous hybrid of Anthurium radicans (with its wonderful puckered leaves and thick leaves) and the higher altitude puckered beauty, Anthurium dresslerii. This hybrid owes more to the dresslerii parent we think because of the the self heading habit (not the creeping rhizome of the standard A. radicans) and the beautiful puckered leaves with the added beautifu of the cranberry color of the emerging leaves. This seems to have the robust growth of a first generation hybrid. We recommend this beautiful plant. This is often in limited availability as is so slow growing; but right now for the 2010 SEASON we have a moderately good supply. See the pictures.

56909 BEGONIA MINI MERRY CHRISTMAS BEG CGH TERR $ 6.25 (rex) Probably more accurately 'Mini Merry'. Tuffets of tiny lime leaves with pink blushed silvery areas pillowed beteen the radiant veins ; raspberry toned margins. Woodriff hybrid still quite sought after by terrarium fanciers.

40093 CALATHEA RUFIBARBA [ACCUMINATA] MAR TGH TERRARIUM $ 7.50 Erect hirsute cinnamon leaves, purplish reverse; dense clumper.

66900 CALATHEA THAI BEAUTY MAR TERR TGH $ 50.00 Remarkable bold cream & lime variegation creating a different irregular pattern on each upward whorled leaf. Most probably in the C. lietzei complex. Eventually creating its own miniature "standard" shape on its wiry woody stem unless you pinch the growing tip to encourage branching. A gem for any light gardener; quickly winning over designers of terrarium landscapes as well. Quite a jewel in a terrarium or Wardian Case plant combination. Sometime called Oxalis Silver & Gold.

53532 PEPEROMIA BUNTINGII PIP HP TGH $ 8.00 "Blue Watermelon Peperomia". Bluish-emerald toned leaves richly veined and patterned, form thick whorls of compact mounds; although appearing delicate, the jade like succulent leaves can easily tolerate somewhat lower humidity than expected.

PLANTS FOR LARGE TERRARIUMS (WARDIAN CASES)

90234 TERRARIUM: WARDIAN CASE COLLECTION-- LARGER SIZED SELECTIONS: For the wonderful larger scaled speciality (such as the H. Potter line) terrariums pictured on our website (check the links at the bottom of the page at http//:www.glasshouseworks.com/gardenart.html), you will need the slightly fuller plants of this collection, especially as several will be chosen for height. 10 appropriate humidity lovers for $35.00 This collection might include items for a slightly larger terrarium or slightly more unusual items.

Here are some specific suggestions to order individually for your larger terrarium.

10014 ADIANTUM PERUVIANUM POLYP TERR TGH $ 5.50 "Silver Dollar Maidenhair Fern" Large dramatic species with pink toned new foliage hardening into rich green arching fronds. Must have high humidity to perform well--loves a large Wardian Case as its home; nonetheless, if given a cool bright windowsill and a pebble tray, it will also become (given several years) an impressive specimen; always a star in any hobby greenhouse.

11438 ALSOPHILA COOPERII [CYATHEA AUSTRALIS] CYT CGH $10.00 "Australian Tree Fern" Young plants present a spreading canopy of metallic deep green arching fronds supported by a cinnamon trunk; eventually a massive stunning specimen. Although we recommend greenhouse culture in our climate, some customers have successfully grown this as a house or large Wardian Case specimen, always keeping constant levels of humidity. We have grown this to a most impressive size on a sunny porch, glass enclosed during the winter.

30125 ANTHURIUM MICKEY MOUSE [HYB] ARAC HP TGH $ 15.00 Dwarf hybrid with delightful shinny scarlet fls flared out into ear-like lobes tinted greenish; clumping habit. Growth is like a compact andreanum, but with an Obake blossom shape which can be successfully produced in normal houseplant conditions unlike most of the Obake types. Recommended for those who long for success without standing over a plant with a mister. We also offer Anthurium Hawaiian Butterfly, which is so similiar that we sometimes send the latter. You will get one or the other, whichever is available at the time.

30146 ANTHURIUM POLYSCHISTUM ARAC TGH TERR $ 25.00 "Copper Vine" Strong vining copper stems (upwardly mobile) wanly support coppery green ruffled palmate leaves. Prefers the high humidity of a greenhouse or a wardian case to prevent tip burn; avoid direct sunlight.

11408 ASPLENIUM NIDUS ANTIQUUM OSAKA POL HP TGH $ 5.50 Decorative "Japanese Birdsnest Fern" form with elegant slim fronds with wavy ruffled margins, forming bowl-shaped specimens thriving in high-light areas, tolerating low humidity. Gives a Shirly Temple tone to your ferns.

Limited availability at times, so please inquire to find when the next set will be shipped--none can be mailed successfully durning hot parts of the year as is extremely intolerant of high temperatures. If you are unable to wait for a successful window of opportunity for shipping, please consider other Begonias for your greenhouse or terrarium.

Will survive some winters in our zone if the ground barely freezes, but best grown as a cool greenhouse subject.

41260 FICUS FRED BOUTIN MOR HP CGH $ 5.00 Unique woody, twiggy low growing "character" trunks give this quirky Boutin hybrid of F. carica x pumila high marks with cascade bonsai trainers who also value its richly haired, quilted foliage. Availability irregular as this is somewhat winter dormant (not shedding foliage, but slowing growth)--needs high humidity like its carica parent to maintain good spidermite free foliage; loves a pole or wall to clamber like its pumila parent. Of most interest to collectors as Moraceae are notoriously difficult to hybridize as the blossoms face the center of the enclosed protofruit..

40300 FICUS SAGITATA VARIEGATA MOR HP TGH $ 10.00 "Trailing Fig" dark quilted lvs over wiry often creeping stems which arch to give an open effect. This is the beautiful variegated or marginated form of this old favorite. Not as clingy as the Ficus pumila types, but makes quite a nice ground cover in pots around larger plants. Also if often used as a hanging basket subject.

40301 FICUS SALICARIA (SALICIFOLIA) MOR HP TGH $ 9.50 "Willow Leaf Fig" Masses of narrow lvs (thus also called F. neriifolia as well as F. salicifolia) on upright dwarf multi-trunked trees; perfect bonsai. Roots are said to be chewed as a sterility cure in Zimbabwe! We make no guarantee on curative powers, but believe it an excellent container subject. Newly published under the name of Ficus Salicaria for which information we thank Derek Burch. Whatever its name, this shrubby freely branching beauty is at home in any bonsai pot; however, released into a larger pot or given free root run, this soon achieves wide handsome proportions at which point the beauty of the older bark becomes apparent.

< 58329 FITTONIA VERSCHAFFELTII FORTISSIMO ACA HP TERR $ 6.75 A brand new variety of the Pink Nerve plant. If you wanted something bigger and more robust that could be grown anywhere, this is your choice. Not a bright, but still a fine addition. Can be used for the larger terrarium also.

58360 FITTONIA VERSCHAFELTII SILVER ANNE ACAN TERR TGH $ 6.50 A cultivar of "White Nerve Plants" with unusually bright white veins in a startling network on strong papery leaves. Best in a Wardian Case as may be too vigorus for a small terrarium. But remember Nerve Plants can be easily grown as a windowsill plant also.

50519 GEOGONANTHUS UNDATUS COMM CGH HP $10.00 "Seersucker Plant" Shiny quilted lvs of dark metallic green, pinstriped with gray; red underleaf. Prostrate Peruvian. Much sought after for its amazing presence in the larger terrarium design, yet the waxy leaves can tolerate the lower humidity of a windowsill; however, this emerges still as most spectacular under the care of litegardening hobbyists becoming an amazing glossy hemisphere of quilted puckery pinstriped foliage. (Even if this does sound as if the hobbyist will head into a new fashion mode of seersucker also.) If leaves brown, this means your water is high in salts or in dangerous water softeners or that it has been exposed to winter chill. Even at this lower price, we send out well established plants.

20166 GLOXINIA SYLVATICA GES HP TGH $ 3.00 Formerly Seemannia latifolia. "Christmas Slippers" This is a select evergreen clone with narrow felted dark lvs closely covering the stiff cascading stems; many red-orange slim guppy-mouthed lfs during winter months. Excellent houseplant; even when not in bloom the attractive foliage is evergreen and attractive all seasons.

41161 HEDERA HELIX CONGLOMERATA ARAL HP HH CGH $ 4.25 Undulating leathery, blackish green leaves clasp stiff, often contorted, upright stems; forms semi-erect bush with time. The wavy (heart-shaped at base) leathery leaves survive our winter unscathed if situated away from winter sun and wind.

42115 HEDERA HELIX LITTLE DIAMOND ARAL CGH HH $ 6.25 Small-statured 'Kleiner Diamant' with diamond shaped gray splashed leaves with delicate white border. Very shrubby; a conversation piece small enouch for the alpine house.

50031 HEMIGRAPHIS EXOTICA VARIEGATA [HORT] ACAN HP TGH $ 5.25 "Variegated Waffle Plant" the oval puckered metallic-purpled pairs of leaves, each with an attractively rolled margin, are splotched with straw yellow; wonderful as the furled margins reveal the wine-red underleaf. Popular for hanging baskets, for windowboxes, and indoor sunny window sills; and successful also as an aquatic in pool or aquarium.

40364 HOFFMANIA FANTASIA [HYB] RUB HP TGH $ 0.00 LIMITED AVILABILITY Hybrid with shimmering quilted lvs of green copper-satin. Handsome wide leaved hybrid of ghiesbrecktii x refulgens. Often sold out; please check before ordering.

40384 IMPATIENS REPENS $ 4.50 "Ceylon Jewelweed" Cascading thick red succulent stems (which self branch to form a mat) populated by masses of tiny coppery kidney shaped leaves dramatically punctuated by occassional impressive cornucopia shaped yellow hooded blossoms. Always popular with indoor litegardeners and with hobby greenhousers as a wonderful color and texture addition to any plant grouping; recently discovered by "Tropicals in Temperate Zone" designers as an excellent performer cascading from summertime urns, baskets, and windowboxes, adding a whole new dimension to an Impatiens grouping.

40378 IMPATIENS VELVETA SECRET LOVE [HORT] BAL TGH TERR $ 7.50 Possibly of platypetala affinity; deep emerald leaves with startling silver midvein and brilliant carmine underleaf. Big cornucopia helmet shaped rosy pink flowers. Large terrarium recommended if grown as a houseplant. Does poorly in hot climates. Thanks to Chris Baker.

11430 LEPISORUS BICOLOR POLYPO CGH $ 7.25 Resembles a sophisticated Pyrrosia with very slim surface rhizomes; strap fronds with indented polka-dot spore patches distinguish this "Sechuan Ribbon Fern" which Eco-Gardens considers Zone 8 hardy. Quite beautiful and distinct in pot or basket--even though its initial slow deliberate growth rate may test your patience. Grown in Camellia house conditions this creeping fern becomes fantastic, whether as a ground cover, as a hanging moss basket subject, or as a gradually shingling climber on a moist protected wall.

42233 MEDINILLA LALIQUE [HYB] MEL HP TGH $ 14.50 Very rich green glossy long lvs with prominent veins on self-branching corky stems; glorious hanging chandelier shaped clusters of delicate pearl-toned petals emerging from bright lilac base. Much smaller statured than M. magnifica and the similar large foliaged 'Kinabalu,' thus much easier as a pebble tray houseplant--extremely elegant habit. Wonderful presented in a hanging basket in the greenhouse or conservatory so the art noveau elaborately branched pendant flower clusters can be observed from beneath.

20477 NEMATANTHUS YELLOW MAROON #82-123 GES TGH $ 5.50 Stout upright stems, toned red, hold elongated heart leaves with felted surface and red-veined reverse. Attractive inflated blossoms: and the colors would be?

52132 NEOREGELIA AMPULACEA ZEBRINA [HORT] BRO HP TGH $ 8.50 Very showy compact epiphyte, forming colonies of leathery urn-shaped plants joined by tinker-toy stolons; each narrow urn's dark olive leathery lvs dramatically banded maroon.

53359 NEOREGELIA SCHULTSIANA CREAM FIREBALL BRO HP TG $18.00 The fabulous carmine red compact urns of the species form, brilliantly accented with broad ivory cream margins. Needs bright light and good humidity to best form its colony of pert rosettes. Very beautiful; a fantastic visual effect remarkable for the ease of culture in achieving it.

11586 NEPHROLEPIS EXALTATA SUZI WONG POLYPOD GH $ 7.50 Dwarf lacy selection--unlike most extremely delicate types, if adaquate moving air is available, the fronds do not discolor & brown easily, even though layer after layer of froth develops on each frond. Avoid excessive humidity; best with good air movement--thus even though it has the perfect appearance for your Wardian case, Suzi is not the best choice for her skirts may get a bit messy in such an environment--that is, if your case is kept quite humid.!

40678 OPHIOPOGON JAPONICUS ARITAKI LIL HP CGH $ 4.75 "Silver Mist Lilyturf" with short narrow strap leaves richly lined in cream-white, pink tinted in high light. Rare because is slow to offset; considered at least Z7 hardy. Evidentally same as `Folius Albo-striatus.' Fabulous container subject.

52058 ORTHOTANTHUS WHAT BRO HP TGH $ 8.75 Beautiful "Copper Swirls" hybrid: small clumping arched rosettes of many softly toothed overlapping rosy bronze leaves. A bromeliad small enough to be a good terrarium subject. This is an intergeneric hybrid not often found in collections.

54573 PEPEROMIA CAPERATA BURGUNDY PIP HP TGH $ 4.75 Deeply corrugated foliage with rich dusky purple tones. Very slow growing.

53568 PEPEROMIA GALIOIDES PIP HP CGH $ 4.25 "Pine Peperomia." or "Needle-leaf Wax Plant" Small erect branching stems with close whorls of four to six pale green needle leaflets--eventually looks like a succulent clustered mini-scale model for a Bamboo clump. Very odd habit for this genus.

53521 PEPEROMIA GARDNERIANA [CORDATA?] PIP HP TGH $ 4.25 "Argentina" probably indicates origin. Big golden-ochre lvs bushed with dull pewter highlights, held in open rosettes with character of a giant P. caperata.

53708PEPEROMIA PIED PIPER [SPECIES] PIP HP TGH $ 6.50 Beautiful wide red-backed deep emerald leaves with silver bands on much-branching colorful stems. Lovely & showy.

53639 PEPEROMIA POLYBOTRYA [PERICATII] PIP HP TGH $ 6.00 "Coin-leaf P." or "Owl Eye Plant" Stout picturesque stems hold large cupped-shield-shaped, waxed peltate lvs with a center "eye"; Andean species with racemes to one foot long covered with flowers so tiny the naked eye is defeated.

53655 PEPEROMIA SILVER BANDIT [SPECIES UNIDENTIFIED] $ 5.00 Reclining upright stems hold elegant pebbled leaves with upcurled edges and bright central silver flames--this Andean species needs coolish location to display best colors. A challenge to grow unless given perfect drainage.

30327 PHILODENDRON NURSE NOODLES [MINI SPEARS] ARAC HP TGH $ 18.00Almost stemless, forms a mop of glossy small lance leaves, maintaining a miniature stature.

56821 PHILODENDRON TENUE [HORT] ARAC TGH $ 25.00 "Dwarf Accordian Leaf Philodendron" Elongated hearts with fabulous depressed veins creating a deep ribbing curving from the central leaf vien; seems an abbreviated ecuadorense with heavier substance and rose blushed clambering stems.
41037 PILEA BERTERTONIA [MOLLIS; CRASSIFOLIA] URT HP TGH $ 4.75 "Moon Valley Pilea" Very puckered, quilted apple-green leaves with serrated edges, sometimes with center chocolate blotch. Costa Rican plant sometimes considered a form of Pilea involucrata with extremely bullate leaves. Great for terrariums or plant room.

41040 PILEA CADIEREI MINIMA PATTI'S GOLD URT HP TGH $ 4.25 Subtle splotches of honey yellow sometimes turn bright cream as the already silver-pillowed leaf surfaces mature. A remarkable selection by Patti Lee for all collectors of variegates.

41046 PILEA GRANDIFOLIA CORAL URT HP TGH $ 4.00 Also Pilea grandis superba. "Copper Pilea" Striking pinkish- copper shimmery leaves on erect large spreading Jamaican bush. Easy.

54351PILEA SP. MOONLIGHT URT TERR TGH $ 2.75 Small rounded quilted leaves with central pewter flame; soon forms a soft carpet. In the forgettii complex.

56236 POGONATHERUM CRINITUM GRA HP CGH $ 6.50 "German Bamboo" A lovely grass of great delicacy with fast clumping erect Bamboo-like stalks reaching a foot height; these branched stalks are clothed with sea-green slim leaf blades. Fabulous when displayed as a bonsai; customers in the subtropics inform us this is a most successful thickly clumped vertical vase perfectly accenting any border design. This "Bamboo Grass" is now listed in Poaceae.

11152 POLYSTICHUM TSUS-SIMENSE POL CGH HH HT $ 6.50 "Painted Rock Fern" Miniature deep green fern; perfect for cool terrarium, while hardy enough for the protected woodland or sheltered trough.

50050 PSEUDERANTHEMUM ALATUM ACAN HP TGH $ 4.75 "Chocolate Plant" Wide dusky pink and coca-brown lvs figured with silver; short plants with racemes of small purple flowers. Not shipped until summer; as prefers to be annual, shortages can occurr.

50056 PSEUDERANTHEMUM RETICULATUM ELDORADO ACAN HP $ 4.75 Slim ochre-yellow lvd "Gold Vein Shrub"; much more limber stems more self- branching than the erect wide-lvd species form. `Eldorado' forms a lush bright mound of foliage.

11601 PTERIS CRETICA ALBOLINEATA POLY $ 4.25 Wildly winged fingered fronds are each elaborately patterned with pewter white centers; always popular "Victorian Table Fern" as is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures (do NOT freeze) and light intensities. Will make any companion pot glow as if accented by the most elaborate of Victorian doilies.

11662 PTERIS QUADRIAURITA TRICOLOR POLYPO CGH HP $ 4.25 One of our favorites. This Victorian Table Fern is called Tricolor but is more specifically a rubra and dark green color. It has fantastic new growth of bright cranberry red. An easy growing houseplant or even terrarium plant. New in 2010.

40863 REINECKIA CARNEA VARIEGATA LIL HP CGH HH $ 6.25 Outstanding carpeting "False Lilyturf" with short, ranked leaves striped bright ivory; vigorous Japanese clone with brick red flowers followed by berries. Green species form marginally winter hardy here in Zone 6--this is less hardy. A far more successful and gorgeous citizen of your cool greenhouse (need a groundcover under the bench?) or as a beautiful visual in a bulbpan on or near a bright chill winter window.

42300 RHAPIS EXCELSA SELECTION PAL CGH $ 18.00 Long petioles rigidly present deep green pleated leaves with cookie cutter edges richly decorating the rusty haired erect clustering stalks. Avoid red spider with adequate levels of humidity.

40868 RIVINIA HUMILIS PHY TGH HP $4.25 "Rouge Plant" or "Blushberry" Pendant sprays of bright red shiny berries follow the spikes of starry white flowers. Always a favorite for the bright window pot; a novelity for winter greenhouse hobbyists. Newly "rediscovered" accent plant for the summer urn or windowbox. Even though this was a big hit in Victorian bedding; you can stump the experts today by introducing this red berried sweetheart into your summer plantings or combination containers. Some of the "newest" plants are the old Victorian reliables.

71152 ROSA SI ROS HH CGH $ 10.00 "Bonsai Rose" Minature short woody stems support congested puffs of impossibly tiny glossy leaves topped with very demure tinsy light pink windmill flowers.

30542 SCINDAPSIS EXOTICA [SPECIES] ARAC TGH HP $ 22.00 Newly offered from the new robust clone; this looks just like the slower growing clone we have had for years. Possibly because of meristeming, this clone grows robustly and has all the same earmarks of the original plant. Order this at the new lower price. Leathery wide lance leaves of glossy grey green, nearly obscured with bright aluminum grey. Remarkable and beautiful "Exotic Pothos" neither a Pothos, nor Raphiodophora Exotica.

11468 SELAGINELLA BRAZIL [SPECIES] SEL HP CGH $18.00 "Brazillian Clubmoss" Arched wiry caulescent 10" stems branch (in time) to many weeping sprays of delicate-appearing scale-like leaves. Slow to establish, but most distinctively elegantly tall. Gives height in a sophisticated wardian case design.

11472 SELAGINELLA PLANA SEL TERR TGH $ 4.25 Strong erect stems hold bright branched fans of shimmery foliage. Very distinctive beautiful "Spikemoss Cypress" species achieving more dramatic height than most of the tropical "Clubmosses." Certainly not "creepy." Unmatched for giving an exceptionally elegant vertical effect in a wardian case or larger terrarium; but remember that this is very tropical and thus, unlike various Selaginella species offered here, is not tolerant of chill.

11485 SELAGINELLA UNCINATA SEL TERR CGH $ 5.00 "Peacock Moss" "Rainbow Fern" Climbing stems, much branched, with blue tinted dimorphic scale "leaves" in four ranks. Becomes rather brownish during its dormant winter cycle, but fear not--just keep cool, moist, and very bright and behold, new blue foliage emerges come spring.

20219 SINNINGIA BARBATA GES HP TGH $ 6.25 "Dutchman's Pipe" Erect stems hold stiff leaves with reddish reverse and odd yellow swollen tubular blossoms fading to parchment white. Brazilian species best grown in lite garden or Wardian case culture--never allow to go totally dormant as with the typical tuberous species, or will enter that dread territory known as terminal dormancy.

30496 SYNGONIUM PODOPHYLLUM WHITE BUTTERFLY ARAC HP TGH $ 5.00 Popular selection of this Mexican species with young green arrow-head leaves, veined bright white, gradually fading to soft white with lime margins. Tends not to stretch like many.

Caribbean tolerant of indoor conditions. A fern no child can resist.

52264 TILLANDSIA ARAUJEI BRO HP TGH $ 5.75 "Sao Paulo Air Plant" Rock dwelling sea-spray species with short curved silvery-scurfted leaves forming thick scandent strands; pink and white flowers. Mount; don't pot.

53269 TILLANDSIA JUNCEA BRO HP TGH $ 7.00 "Wiskbroom Air Plant" Many compact rushlike leaves held in a upright rosette; the coppery deep green leaves of this selection from Ann Harris reach 12"; the bracts of the inflorecenses are bright red, the petals bluish purple.

52172 TILLANDSIA USNEOIDES BRO HP TGH HH $ 1.75 "Spanish Moss" Silvery-gray threaded masses of tiny plantlet draped trees; perfect houseplant for compulsive mister-ers. Not collected--this is a clone from Guatamala (and thus not needing the chill winter of any collected in the southern USA where most clones are a shade dingy in color anyway) which has been growing happily in our Ohio greenhouses for the last 20 years.

40938 TOLMIEA MENZIESII VARIEGATA SAX HP CGH HH $ 4.25 "Variegated Piggy Back Plant" Fresh green, hairy, lobed leaves with richly yellow-flecked surfaces grow plantlets on the tops of the leaf base. Likes a cool spot with good humidity. Renamed 'Taff's Gold' in England.

40968 VELLOZIA [TALBOTIA] ELEGANS VEL HP TGH $ 15.00 Short branching mounds of bright glossy keeled leaves of rich green and delicate nodding Amaryllis-like small blossoms white yet toned pink and green; marvelous native of the Natal. An evergreen gem sometimes called Talbotia elegans.
