I: WINTER BLOOMS FOR THE HOUSE

Winter Bloomers House Plant Types

99067 WINTER BLOOMERS [5 HOUSE PLANT TYPES] $22.00 .Mainly old Victorian favorites also, but these are plants that often need a bright winter window or a cool to moderate temperature window to perform best. Remember blooming plants do need good light. This collection reflects our choice. If you desire specific plants, order them by stock number from the following list of Winter blooming house plants.

52020 AECHMEA GAMOSEPALA BRO HP TGH $5.50 "Bottlebrush Bromo" Compact, rapidly-clustering urns with erect bottlebrush spikes studded with clove-shaped reddish bracts tipped with electric magenta petals. Easy house plant for the windowsill.

52118 AECHMEA RECURVATA HYBRID BRO HP CGH $ 5.75 A very bold upright hybrid with tight clustered fls of pink green & russett; rapidly clustering / offsetting to form a soft porcupine hemisphere. Best grown with the high light of Tillandsia culture--indeed until it blooms, quite typically mistaken for a terrestial Tillandsia.

20402 AESCHYNANTHUS LOBBIANUS GES HP CGH $4.25 Elliptical leaves ranked on arched, cascading stems terminating with clusters of upright flowers: each maroon cupped calyx holding a blood red "Lipstick Vine" blossom--typically blooming only once a year; these are very small starters.

20016 AESCHYNANTHUS MICRANTHUS VARIEGATE GES HP CGH $ 4.50 "Variegated Himalayan Lipstick Plant" The leathery glossy foliage emerges with ivory-white striations which fades with time into bright lime brushings--striking with the intense small red-purple flowers. Easily grown small statured species prefering cooler temperatures to produce the best variegation. While most Aeschynanthus produce heavy outarching stems gradually elongating until they cascade down (and thus best displayed as an older specimen in a hanging basket), this species is more delicately statured, quite at home in a tall pot on your windowsill or in your lightgarden. Always popular as is easily bloomed and tends to survive the occassional watering (underwatering?) mishap.

20486 AESCHYNANTHUS SPECIOSUS USDA CLONE GES HP TGH $ 5.50Large succulent leathery lvs ranked on stiftly arched stems terminating in showy clusters of erect large blossoms, with yellow bases shading to orange, then red at mouth with black commas at each lobe: thus earning the title of "Winter Ornament Plant"; like other Aeschynanthus (and unlike the Columnea which need to be recut annually) this dramatic easily grown Gesneriad gradually forms a magnificant specimen by gradually clumping into a vase shape of many out-arching strong stems, not needing to be re-started with new cuttings to survive.

65045 ALOE MACULATA [SAPONARIA] LIL HP CGH $ 6.00 "Christmas Candles" From wide fleshy rosette arise spikes with large coral-red tubular flowers mid-winter. Handsome. Called "Soap Aloe" to indicate a practical use of the richly sappy succulent leaves.

20104 ALSOBIA [EPISCEA] DIANTHIFLORA GES HP TGH $4.50 "Carpet Violet: Excellent small species quickly creates a low carpet of shimmery leaves puncuated by very lacy white flowers. Prefers cooler temperatures and brighter light than its Episcia cousins. Typically sent in moist moss.

40025 ALTERNANTHERA DENTATA RUBIGINOSA [RUBY] AMARA HP $ 4.00 "Christmas Clover" has deep maroon leaves accented by masses of long-lasting ivory popcorn flowerheads lasting all winter-- thus also called "False Globe Amaranth." 49457 ANISODONTEA ELEGANT LADY MAL CGH TGH 6.50 Wine veined magenta Hibiscus blossoms, everblooming if given full sun and good fertilizer, along the upright maroon toned stems cloaked with attractive deeply fringered foliage. Most attractive in containters.

Recommended for those who long for success without standing over a plant with a mister. We also offer Anthurium Hawaiian Butterfly, which is so similiar that we sometimes send the latter. You will get one or the other, whichever is available at the time.

49461 BARLERIA REPENS ROSEA VIOLET CASCADE ACA CGH $ 4.00 Out arching slim stems cascade under the weight of the soft petite leaves; terminal clusters of lovely violet blossoms fading to old rose magenta. Height of bloom in late fall.

56467 BEGONIA ART HODES [HYB] BEG TGH $ 5.75 scandent] Martin Johnson hyb with very wide pebbled leaves with pale branching veins and fine reddish hairs; unusually beautiful & unique sometimes seen as 'Antholes.' A spectacular specimen in the conservatory, yet quite a remarkable addition to a shady summer windowbox or urn as well even though the modest clusters of white flowers typically appear only midwinter.

56707 BEGONIA CHERRIES AND CHOCOLATE [HYB] BEG HP TGH $ 3.75 (rex/rz) Small saturated easily grown clumping mound of beautifully marbled mahogany black leaves with pecan tones, highlighted with bright pewter brushings amplified by the dramatic cherry red underleaves. Amazingly vigorous and undemanding.

56375 BEGONIA CHUCK B. JAROS [HYB] BEG CGH $ 4.00 (s) Large upright plant with shiny grape-shaped applegreen foliage. Unusual yet handsome specimen with winter sprays of showy antique white flowers held on red-haired stems. The stout erect canes can reach several feet if roots are free to run. Nearly impossible to kill.

56024 BEGONIA CONVOLVULACEA BEG HP CGH $ 4.50 (trailing) The "Grape Leaf Begonia" with big glossy sharply lobed lvs shingling the scandent stems; enormous pendant flower heads in late winter are most impressive. Easy. Unmatched for a substantial hanging basket statement. Given support (does not need encouragement) this clean cut beauty can easily cover a wall with fabulous shingled glossy foliage.

56028 BEGONIA CORALLINA DE LUCERNA [HORT] [HYB] BEG HP TGH $ 6.00 (cane) Traditional "Angel Wing Begonia" w/ deeply lobed lvs dotted silver; pendulous salmon rose flower clusters. 56032 BEGONIA DIETRICHIANA BEG HP TGH $ 4.50 (s) Slate green lvs rimmed red & backed in rose on upright branches; very soft pink fls.

56037 BEGONIA ERYTHROPHYLLA [HYB] BEG HP GHP $ 3.50 (rz) "Beefsteak Beg." Waxy rounded leaves reddish beneath. Easy and reliable and beautiful AND the one probably flourishing on your grandmother's windowsill.

56040 BEGONIA FAGIFOLIA BEG HP CGH $ 2.50 (trailing/ scandent) Pebbly felted shiny leaves clasp meandering stems are easy to train on sphagnum topiary forms; yet, equally dramatic as a small hanging basket subject as it retains its shingled foliage well. The demure "Beechleaf Begonia" produces flower clusters of white, typically late winter.

56285 BEGONIA GINNY [HYB] BEG HP TGH $ 3.00 (s) Small featured shrubby hybrid with pink-toned fabuously felted wing-shaped leaves, rouged a flirtin' red beneath; recurring pearl fading to pale pink flowers with red beards, the male flowers somewhat serrate edged; forms a tight cluster of short stems beautifully foliaged, given good light and organic fertilizer. The attractively haired foliage allows this to acclimate to less humid conditions than tolerated by most Beonias.

56050 BEGONIA GLABRA BEG HP CGH $ 4.00 (trailing/scandent) "Mini Grapeleaf" glossy grass-green leaves on strong scandant vine terminating in clusters of shell pink flowers. Also offered as B. procumbens on West Coast (we do offer the true procumbens/limmingheana in this listing below). This brightly cheerful winner readily forms clinging hair roots along its stems and happily clings to and covers even a concrete wall with shingled waxy leaves accented in late winter with outarched blossom clusters; thus, very popular as a solid cover for mossed topiary forms. Alternately, an interesting small foliaged vine cascading from a hanging basket or windowbox.

56702 BEGONIA HOCKING VELVET [HORT] BEG HP TGH $ 7.25 Heavy substanced deep burbon bronzed starburst leaves with dark shimmery surfaces accented with deep carmine reverses. Many white winter flowers fading to shell pink.

56282 BEGONIA LOIS BURKS [HYB] BEG CGH HP $ 3.25 (c) Much-branched low-grower with lovely angelwing foliage strewn with silver. The very showy shell pink spring blossoms repeat when given ample light. Easy beautiful basket plant; excellent choice for the windowsill.

56088 BEGONIA ODORATA ALBA BEG HP CGH $ 4.75 Sprays of small white fragrant flowers; glossy ovate leaves spaced on a big boned gal of a specimen plant. Needs elbow room to flourish, but the subtle sweet scents are ample payment from this Caribbean shrub.

56092 BEGONIA PARILIS BEG HP CGH $4.75 (thick-stemmed) "Zig-Zag Beg." Narrow tanned lvs, with brown tomentum beneath, on heavily branched nodding stems forming eventually an impressive specimen with odd snowball shaped tight flower heads. May be slow to establish, but eventually forms a tightly clumped arched specimen of considerable charm.

56134 BEGONIA THIEMEI [MACDOUGALII PURPUREA] BEG HP $ 6.00 (rz) "Palmleaf Beg." Seven to ten glossy serrated leaflets per petiole; maroon beneath unfurl from a very thick rhizome which sometimes leaves the soil line for the sky. Attractive greenish hued flower clusters upon heavy stalks. Excellent indoor pot plant; recently discovered by designers of summertime shady windowboxes.
54059 BEGONIA TORCH [HYB] BEG HP TGH $ 4.25 (c) Bright red fl clusters on stout stems flanked with thick emerald angelwing leaves revealing red laquered undersides. While a compactly statured Cane, not a true dwarf.

56145 BEGONIA WASHINGTON STREET [HYB] BEG HP CGH $ 5.50 (s) Strong rose toned stalks punctuated with glossy foliage and showy clusters of ivory (fading to pearl tones) flowers during January and February. Reliable big boned heirloom.

52054 BILLBERGIA CHER [HYB] BRO HP CGH $ 12.00 Jerry Raack's striking hybrid of `Fantasia' with euphemiae rubra: spotted reddish purple tall slim urns with each leathery leaf arched at the very tip; deeply arching long inflorescence with bracts and blossoms of pink, violet and ochre. A most impressive specimen in time; yet of easy culture.

52051 BILLBERGIA NUTANS BRO HP CGH $ 4.00 "Queen's Tears" Narrow silver-bronze leathery leaves overlap tightly to form slender vases from which arch "weeping" flowerstalks with rose, green & violet "tear" flowers like "Indoor Oats." Tolerant of adverse conditions--always popular because the lovely inflorescences appear without fail every winter.

20643 CHIRITA DIANE MARIE [HYB] GES TGH TERR $ 6.25 Strikingly beautiful houseplant forming a rumpled rosette like posie of thick jadelike silver surfaced leaves with pewter line and serrate margins; many nodding lavender slipper flowers with flared mouth revealing maroon lines and lemon throat.

Handsome Nakayama hybrid more free-flowering than species clones. Certainly one of the easiest of all houseplants, equally at home in the windowsill, terrarium, or greenhouse/plantroom--but most smashingly splendid when grown under lights. When customers "cut down" on the number of their pet houseplants, this is never tossed out!

20645 CHIRITA SWEET CHARITY [HYB] GES HP TGH $ 7.25 Very dark jade like foliage; nodding slipper blossoms. The glossy succulent leaves become quite impressively dimensional.

51017 CLIVIA MINIATA GRANDIFLORA AMARY HP CGH $ 8.50 "Belgian Hybrid Clivia" The usual commercial selection with large umbels of orange-red fls, throated yellow, over very attractive deep evergreen leathery strap lvs. Unparalleled as a flowering houseplant.

51287 EUCHARIS CHRISTINE AMARYL HP $ 8.50 The excellent extremely fragrant "Compact Amazon Lily" with slimmer tighter foliage than the species grandiflora, yet large wax white daffodil shaped flowers are produced in considerable numbers once the offsetting bulbs reach a mature size thanks to your providing a warm richly fertilized mix with bight indirect light; good for conditions too warm for its Amaryllis cousins--thus a perfect sunny window houseplant easily bloomed.

51040 EUCHARIS GRANDIFLORA [AMAZONICA] AMARY HP TGH $ 10.00 "Amazon Lily" Highly scented white waxy fls like nodding daffodils held above glossy deep green lvs; ideal houseplant for a room too warm for its amaryllis cousins to thrive.

67759 EUPHORBIA FULGENS [JAQUINIFLORA] EUP HP TGH $ 6.25 Mexican "Scarlet Plume" with slender stems arching under the slim attractive foliage and scarlet orange pseudo-petaled blossoms which last for months--the winter red bracts cluster in the leaf axils for a charming look. Remember this old Victorian favorite must have full sun to mature and no stray lite in the fall (like its kissin cousin, the Poinsettia) or it will fail to set buds for the charming winter display. Once again the old is new as many of you have told us that they have been searching for the "Scarlet Plume" for years.

99697 EUPHORBIA: the CROWN OF THORNS COLLECTION: This collection can include some of the dwarf species in this group of plants, like Euphorbia francoisii to add to the diversity of this collection. This group is for the collector of oddities and visual diversities. If you want particular hybrids or species, be sure to order them individually with their stock numbers; because we gather this selection separately from the best plants available on the week mailed and thus the plants are completely our selections. 43121 HIPPEASTRUM GRACILIS X HIPPEASTRUM VITTATUM [HORT] AMARY HP $ 3.50Our cross of these essentially evergreen species should produce a range of flared scarlet blossoms with a white throat. Take your chances.

51059 HIPPEASTRUM MRS GARFIELD [HYB] AMARY TGH HP $ 32.00 This collector's fantasy, the "Banded Amaryllis" with cream centered wide strap lvs, produces handsome trumpet fls of soft white elegantly reticulated with rose veins; famous heirloom hybrid of H. reticulatum x `Defiance' of 1800's, Veitch & Sons. Unlike the "Dutch" hybrids mass marketed today, this fabulous heirloom maintains evergreen variegated strap foliage and regularly blooms each year, especially as the roots become more restricted.

51003 HIPPEASTRUM PAPILIO AMARY HP CGH $ 8.75 "Butterfly Amaryllis" Nearly evergreen glossy strap lvs; heads of red fls flamed with creamy white. Show stopper. Does not require a "dormant" period to bloom, thus an easy houseplant always maintaining its attractive foliage.

51295 HIPPEASTRUM SAN ANTONIO ROSE AMARYL CGH HP $ 8.00 Compactly statured clumping Amaryllis with reddish veined violet blushed strap leaf reverses; violet pink blossom clusters. Likely overwinters in Z8 and higher as hybridizer William Bell crossed Hippeastrum aulicum stenopetalum x traubii doraniae. Thanks to Steve Lowe for sharing this with us--as has proven to be an easily bloomed evergreen dependable "Violet Amaryllis" houseplant for us!
99080 HOYA COLLECTION: A solid introductory selection of high performance "Wax Flowers"--including flashy H. carnosa cultivars seldom (if ever) offered in the catalogue listings. This bargain price reflects strong cuttings sent in moss (and they will root in your conditions best in moss) as well as a strong probability that some will be already potted. Certainly one of the most ordered plant collections we offer. 5 different @ $20.00

55702 HOYA CARNOSA COMPACTA ASC HP TGH $ 5.00 Dependable "Hindu Rope Plant" with waxy tortollini torked leaves so closely set as to obscure the succulent stems; very beautiful clusters of fragrant deep pink blossoms.

61014 HOYA CARNOSA HOLLIANA VARIEGATA ASC HP TGH $ 5.00 "Beautiful pairs of thick succulent lvs--much reduced in size compared to most Carnosa cvs--each wavy waxy leaf margined creamy white; habit is prostrate, making this cultivar most ideal for succulent wreaths and moss topiaries.

60077 HOYA CARNOSA KRINKLE 8 [HORT] ASC HP TGH $ 5.00 "Waffle Hoya" Puckered deep green waxy wide leaves; beautiful showy pink blossom clusters are freely produced. Name given for the (usually) eight distinct "dimples" on each decorative leaf.

40423 JASMINUM SAMBAC GRAND DUKE OF TUSCANY OLE HP TGH $ 8.00 "Arabian Jasmine" clone with double cauliflowered camellia- like fragrant fls, thus known as the "Moss Rose Jasmine"-- correctly J.sambac `Flore-plena.' Excellent foliage of deep green ruffled lvs on strong rigidly erect canes; easily produces its typically solitary flower if provided richly fertilized warm soil, bright light and even levels of humidity; avoid chill to prevent flower bud drop.

40424 JASMINUM SAMBAC MAID OF ORLEANS OLE HP TGH $ 8.00 This "Arabian Jasmine" clone has semi-double flowers of rich fragrance on woody shrubs with pale foliage; considered the best for houseculture by the Elberts--certainly the easiest to bloom indoors. The famous J.s. `Multiplex' in French perfume; traditionally the Chinese use this attractive form to give fragrance to green tea.
60374 KALANCHOE BEAUVERDII HYBRID CRA HP TGH $ 4.00 Gray green noodle lvs in rigid opposite pairs with ridged tips producing adventituous plantlets, on scrambling wiry stems. Clusters of pendant glossy olive calyx bells, each with shiny salmon-pink petals with violet-speckled rims--quite a midwinter show. (Possibly a distinct species as yet unidentified for us.)
68480 KALANCHOE BOSSFELDIANA CITRINA CRA HP TGH $ 4.75 Wide clumping dark rubbery foliage of large scalloped leaves create a perfect backdrop for the extravagantly produced showy clusters of upfacing golden yellow blossoms opening for an extended "Golden Flaming Katie" winter show.
60386 KALANCHOE DAIGREMONTIANA CRA HP TGH $ 3.25 "Life Plant" or "Mother of Thousands" Plantlets form on the crenulated margins of the liver-green triangular fleshy leaves, spotted reddish-brown; heads of pendant pinkish midwinter blossoms gradually fade to a delicate gray-violet hue. Formerly in the genus Bryophyllum, appropriate as the Latin translates to "sprouting leaves." SW Madagascar native of easy culture if given sufficient light. This may be as common as dirt (according to one customer who obviously has lost her inner child), yet every kid loves this handsome dame. And an important postscript: For those who love their turtles--remember that little tortoises with runny noses should try this as a cure.

60389 KALANCHOE FEDTSCHENKOI CRA HP CGH $ 1.75 "Purple Scallops" Amethyst, flour-dusted scalloped leaves are margined purple with brownish notches producing adventitious buds in sufficient light and humidity; elegant terminal clusters of pendant khaki-pink flowers appearing late winter. Madagascar native. Very attractive; easily grown given good light.

60394 KALANCHOE HOUGHTONII [HYB] CRA HP TGH $ 2.75 Also K. poincarei. "Good Luck Plant" A hybrid "Life Plant" of daigremontiana x tubiflora with tan-pink channeled slim lvs (distinctly wider and flatter than tubiflora) with purple designs and toothed margins producing many adventitious plantlets. Easy favorite with very showy rigid umbles of down turned blossoms mid-winter. Certainly the easiest "Life Plant" to grow.

60407 KALANCHOE OBTUSA CRA HP TGH $ 6.75 Attractive broad succulent lvs on very short stems beautifully accent and frame the hemispheres of upfacing brick-red flowers. Attractive compact bouquet from Tanzania. Marvelous tuffet outline gradually branching with time; certainly the most flower power for the foliar size and thus astoundingly popular both as an indoor windowsill potplant blooming midwinter when bright flowers are most needed, and as a petite compact greenhouse subject. Not to be confused with the taller stalked blossfeldiana crew with their smaller flower clusters.

60410 KALANCHOE PINNATA CRA HP TGH $ 3.50 "Air Plant" or "Miracle Leaf" Most famous "Bryophyllum" for the notched lvs produce clinging adventitious plantlets even when wrenched from the stout stems and pinned to a curtain. (And if you remember those ads and drawings in the Sunday paper, you have dated yourself considerably.) Native to an astounding range geographically--Americas, Australia, Asia, Africa, etc. Forms a handsome upright succulent subshrub with curious winter flowers; a basic houseplant from Victorian times, still in demand today by kids of all ages.

60409 KALANCHOE PROLIFERA CRA HP TGH $4.75 "Blooming Boxes" Maroon-rimmed stout rubbery fishbone lvs rigidly ranked on handsome erect trunks; terminal infl of yellow flowers, each peeping from a bizarre dangling four-sided box-like bract, followed by a "proliferation" of plantlets. Madagascar native with the "Byrophyllum" urge--but adventituous plantlets form more typically on the ripe inflorescence rather than on the ridged edges of the succulent leaves ( this species must have seen a slide show of Agaves somewhere along the line). Rather curiously, this rubbery, extremely handsome, sculpture has become quite popular as an addition to summertime urns as an accent plant in recent years. If planted directly in your greenhouse's floor, this gentle giant can easily top eight feet by the time its enormous candelabra of blossoms crowns the succulent trunk.

60427 KALANCHOE TUBIFLORA [DELAGOENSIS] CRA HP TGH $ 2.75 "Hollywood Palm" or "Chandelier Plant" Erect pinkish stems thickly hung with pendant cylindric dark lvs spotted reddish brown and emerald and tipped with notches nurturing bundles of plantlets; pale red bellflowers pendant mid winter from elaborate terminal inflorescence. Madagascar native. The second photo is not good, but it shows the flowers.

54031 MALVAVISCUS GERMANDERII FIESTA MAL CGH HP HH $ 17.00 Very showy "Dwarf Sleepy Mallow" with brightly variegated chunky leaves accented with many cute bright scarlet "Turk's Cap" blossoms; this brilliantly foliaged selection of this handsome small shrub made by Greg Grant. Much prized by collectors.

41701 MAXILARIA TENUIFOLIA ORC HP TGH $ 25.00 Series of fat oval pseudobulbs with leaf tufts send forth clusters of showy coppery red fls patterned with yellow, white and maroon. Small winter-blooming Orchid easy to grow in porch garden, hobby greenhouse, or under lights.

67331 MONADENIUM COCCINEUM EUP HP TGH $ 4.75 "Masai Spurge" slender angled stems with scarlet to pink showy cymes--these bright hooded fls open near thanksgiving and still are colorful at Easter! The serrate-edged keeled lvs are deciduous. Popular.

40685 OSMANTHUS FRAGRANS OLE TGH CGH $ 10.00 "Sweet Olive" Leathery-leaved shrub; clusters of small white fls emit a delightful rare fragrance "blending jasmine, ripe apricots & gardenia" used in China to scent tea. Himalayan native's leaf edges burn if humidity insufficient or if watered with a source high in salts or a watersoftener. Not a houseplant unless sufficient humidity is provided.

60534 PACHYPODIUM SAUNDERSII APO HP TGH $ 12.50 "Star of Lundi" Thick clubfoot caudiform bases--smooth bark of silver-gray--taper to branches covered with spur shoots covered with deciduous deep green lvs, each flanked with needle-like spines; white flared blossoms. South Africa. Ask about our specimen size plants.

67357 PEDILANTHUS TITHYMALOIDES VARIEGATUS EUP HP TGH $ 5.00 "Variegated Devil's Backbone" Gray-green zig-zagged stems bend under large puckered fleshy leaves margined in bright clear white; red bird beak/bill-shaped blossoms appear if grown in full sun in a cool (not freezing) winter greenhouse, or in a garden on the banks of the Rio Grande.

40800 PELARGONIUM HORTORUM GROSSERSORTEN GER HP CGH $ 2.25 Dwarf somewhat waxy lvs zoned deep purple on short much-branched stems topped with airy clear salmon pink flowers--heavy winter bloomer. Cute and easy self branching hybrid more correct as 'Groszer Garten'--after it performs with abandon on a sunny windowsill all winter, stick some cuttings in your windowbox for a full summer display. 42263 ABUTILON HYBRIDUM SAVITZII MALV CGH $ 5.75 Leaf almost entirely white with small central green flame; pale bronzy salmon fls dangle from the tall stems. Best grown in very bright light in a cool greenhouse in intense climates as can burn in the heat of the deep South. But in zones with smaller numbers this not only performs in the winter greenhouse but forms a magnificant specimen in the summer garden or in container combinations as it flourishes in container culture given regular water and ample fertilizer.

40005ABUTILON HYBRIDUM YELLOW CHIMES MAL HP CGH $ 4.50 Yellow out angled, nodding bellflowers with ochre clappers accent this vigorous "Flowering Maple" with soft fresh green leaves on self branching stems. Possibly a summer blooming selection of England's 'Moonchimes.'

50565 ABUTILON VICTOR REITER [HYB] $ 6.50 Erect woody stems festooned with spectacularly big nodding blossoms of festive tangerine; this "Giant Chime Flowering Maple" can be kept as a modest heavily flowering pot plant, or encouraged to easily reach 8' --thus perfect for training into standards or for backgrounds. Blooms for a very long period as is sterile--often trained as a tropical nearly everblooming shrub, although easily scaled down with carefully considered pruning of the central leads.

41253 ABUTILON VICTORY [HYB] MAL HP CGH $ 4.75 Reiter hybrid of A. megapotamicum with strongly held laterally weeping branches perfectly displaying the charming show of ranks of dangling flared large yellow blossoms highlighted by darker-toned throat. Perfect for hanging baskets, most impressive in windowboxes or tall urns when a bold horizontal plane is imperative in your design scheme. We like it because it blooms even in the heat of our Ohio River Valley summer heat--something we cannnot claim for other A. megapotamicum cultivars.

This hard working hybrid of B. aurea x B. versicolor is usually offered as 'Knightii' in Europe.

42268 BRUGMANSIA CHARLES GRIMALDI SOL CGH TGH $ 5.50 Impressive arrays of luminous salmon-yellow trumpets dangle from the stout stems. Impressive conservatory subject. Lvs cut Poinsettia style; trumpets typically darken to a deeper peachy orange than B. v. 'Apricot' (suaveolens x versicolor), although the distinction is minor.

SUESS [HYB] SOL CGH $ 5.25 "Fancy Angel's trumpet" with elongated fls of yellow orange; both wider throated trumpets with stronger yellow tone than 'Charles Grimaldi' --Possibly B. suaveolens with bell shaped flowers (as opposed to the more typical trumpet shape of most hybrids); whatever its parentage, it remains the most vigorous grower in northern climates..
